SULHA
A film by Eitan Harris
Honorable Mention - Haifa Festival 2016
In an Arab village in the Galilee, Rageb and Ward are best friends, and their Christian families enjoy excellent neighborly relations. One night, during an argument, Ward's brother, provokes Rageb, cursing his sister. Rageb pulls a gun and kills him. Now the victim's family must avenge. It's a cultural norm. Their honor is at stake. Only the Sulha, a unique Arab ancient peacemaking procedure can stop the bloodshed. If it succeeds, the families will declare peace. Should it fail, the whole village will immerse in blood. It's the first time a documentary film maker has been allowed to follow the complicated Sulha procedure.
